Obeo’s Software to Support Korea’s Railway Systems Modernisation

French software company Obeo teams up with LOTUS Technologies to support the Korean Railway Research Institute.

The French software company Obeo, best known for its collaboration withThales in developing the open-source Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tool Capella, has signed an agreement with its Korean partner, LOTUS Technologies, to provide both methodological and technical support to the Korean Railway Research Institute (KRRI). The objective of this collaboration is to support KRRI in adopting an MBSE approach with Capella to help modernize Korea’s railway systems.

This collaboration marks an important milestone in Obeo’s international growth, as it combines Obeo’s deep knowledge of Capella with LOTUS’s strong local presence and understanding of the Korean market. For KRRI, this partnership ensures access not only to advanced MBSE technologies but also to tailored expertise and best practices that will ease the transition towards new engineering methods.

During his recent visit to Korea, Romain Horcada, Obeo’s Business Developer for Asia & Oceania, emphasised that deploying a tool like Capella is only part of the journey. He said:

“Supporting KRRI means accompanying a profound transformation in the way systems engineering is approached," ... "By joining forces with LOTUS, we can ensure that this transformation is both technically robust and culturally aligned.”

The partnership has already begun delivering value. As part of their joint efforts, Obeo and LOTUS facilitated KRRI’s participation in the Australasian Simulation Congress in Adelaide from 11 to 14 August, where more than 500 experts in modelling and simulation gathered. The event gave KRRI representatives the opportunity to learn from international peers and to exchange directly with Australian systems engineers experienced in applying MBSE to large-scale infrastructure projects.

Through this agreement, Obeo and LOTUS are positioning themselves as key partners in KRRI’s modernisation journey, demonstrating the role of international collaboration in advancing engineering practices. Looking ahead, the two companies remain committed to supporting KRRI in building a sustainable and future-ready railway system for Korea.
