Born in New Caledonia, Mr Gyges moved to mainland France for his tertiary education to get 2 Master’s degree in applied economics and corporate finance. On his return, he worked briefly for a bank before holding key positions as advisor then chief of staff for the Government and the Congress of New Caledonia.
Mr Gyges is passionate about politics. He belongs to a local anti-independence party and is also a member of the current national presidential party. He was first elected in May 2019 both for the Southern Province and the Congress of New Caledonia.
Mr Gyges became member of the Government in 2017 and was reconducted in 2019. Apart from being the spokesperson of the Government of New Caledonia, his portfolio encompasses Foreign Trade, Taxation, Energy, Economic Recovery measures, the Digital Economy, Marine Economy, Ageing and Solidarity policies.
