Maddocks advises PCL Construction’s Solar Division (PCL Solar) on next generation Maryvale solar and energy storage hybrid project

Maddocks advised PCL Solar on the Maryvale Solar & Storage project, boosting NSW’s energy security and supporting Australia’s clean energy transition.

The market-first hybrid solar and energy storage facility is located southeast of Dubbo in NSW, with plans for an installed capacity of approximately 243MWp of photovoltaic solar panels, DC-coupled with ~2.4hr of advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Energy Storage System capacity. The combination of these technologies is equivalent to providing energy to 82,000 homes, annually.

The combination of solar generation with energy storage ensures the delivery of long duration green electricity, improving grid reliability and stability.

The project that was commissioned by Gentari, part of the Malaysia-based Petronas group of companies, and involves the development, financing, procurement, commissioning and operation of the facility in NSW. Gentari selected PCL Solar as the EPC Contractor for the project.

The Maddocks team was led by Partner, Sefton Warner with support from Senior Associate, Madeleine Lynch whose work included full tender support to PCL Solar, as well as negotiating specific downstream terms with consultants, suppliers and subcontractors, which are located across Australia and overseas, as well as providing ongoing project delivery support and training to PCL Solar.

Commenting on the project, Sefton said:

“Using our extensive experience across renewable energy projects, we are pleased to have assisted PCL Solar on this important next generation project that will create a reliable and green source of power, supporting energy security in NSW. It is another example of the sustainable construction that will assist with Australia’s transition to clean energy.”
